One of the paintings that I liked at the MoMA was gold Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol is the one the creator of the pop art movement. The reason I choose this painting is that it is more recent it’s up to date compared to other movements like renaissance or impressionism. And the painting is addressed to society it’s a self-portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe was a huge celebrity in the fifties. The painting was made by andy Warhol the year Marilyn Monroe committed suicide in 1968.
After world war II since the European countries were ruined by the war, the united states economy was at it best we assisted to a boom of manufacturing, mass media, consumer society, and artist works are influenced by what they see in society and that what brings the pop art movement art for the population.
The second painting that I really like at the museum is the ‘’ Dance’’ painting of Matisse. We saw the painting in our lecture class, but the painting really looks better when you are standing right in front of it than watching it through any device. Plus its a huge painting that many people try to enjoy, to contemplate. We can tell the painting is fauvism because of it's primitive look not too much detail some random girl holding each other hands and dancing.
Henry Matisse is a french artist painter and sculpturist. He is among the wild beast of painting fauvist.

Hi Samba,
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that you consider Pope L a Pop Artist- I think you need to define his art more specifically- why the hot do? why the dollar bills? why in front of a Chase Bank? why the boots? What do they symbolize?
Also give a more specific definition of Pop Art- it was a reflection of American Culture in the 1969's focusing on what qualities? What is the intention or meaning in Pop L's work and when was it made? Stop and talk to me after class and I can help you to revise this essay.
